The Charity

Hospital Radio Lynn is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Our registration number is 1179523. The CIO is a modern legal form of charity, specially created for small/medium-sized charities.

Being a charity ensures that Hospital Radio Lynn remains free from commercial influences. This means there will be no high salaries, and Trustees (including their close relatives) cannot receive payment. Local residents have the opportunity to join the charity and actively participate – whether as an ordinary member, a volunteer, part of the management team, or as a Trustee.

Hospital Radio Lynn is especially for you.

Our aims

Hospital Radio Lynn has been created for the following charitable objects:

  • The relief of sickness, poor health and old age amongst people living in the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk area by providing a local broadcasting service for hospitals, residential homes and similar institutions, and for patients receiving community care.
  • The advancement of health and prevention or relief of sickness for the public benefit through the promotion of the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, and the importance of maintaining good personal mental and physical health by (mainly, but not exclusively) the means of broadcasting health education messages to people living in the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.

Our first charitable object allows us to bring comfort, entertainment, and valuable health information to the people of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. Through our broadcasts, we aim to make a positive difference in the lives of those who are unwell or elderly, whether they’re in hospitals, care homes, or receiving community care. We’re here to brighten their day and provide a sense of connection to the outside world.

The second objective is equally important. It enables us to promote good health and wellbeing within our community. Our health education messages cover topics such as healthy living, mental wellness, and the importance of staying active. By spreading this knowledge, we hope to empower our community to lead happier, healthier lives.

The World Health Organisation’s constitution states:

  • Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
  • The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.
  • The extension to all peoples of the benefits of medical, psychological and related knowledge is essential to the fullest attainment of health.
  • Informed opinion and active co-operation on the part of the public are of the utmost importance in the improvement of the health of the people.

To remain within our charitable remit, therefore, our programming does not need to focus just on what the local health services are doing, but can also legitimately include programming on other aspects of living a good life that indirectly affect one’s health and well-being and help reduce social isolation.
